What is craft?

The word ‘craft’ might conjure up memories of making mother’s day cards at primary school. So, you’d be forgiven for thinking craft is all about getting painted cotton wool balls stuck all over your clothes.

Don’t get us wrong, we too love the satisfaction of peeling PVA glue off our fingers after a frenzied card-making session. But there’s more to it than that.

Craft is all around us: everything that has been made by people is a type of craft. Your shoes were crafted. Your house or flat (and the furniture inside it) was built – or crafted, in other words. Even computing is a creative craft, of sorts!

What else can you think of that might be craft? Share your ideas in our Forum.

We’re setting up after-school clubs in your area, where you can come and hang out and show off your creativity and skill in some ingenious projects!

Join Craft Club now!

"Why would I want to do that?" you say...
